Doggy Tales
Read aloud for practice, fun, or just for some doggy time. Kids in 1st through 8th grade are encouraged to sign up for a 20 minute time slot to read to Gus the German Shepherd, a trained therapy dog! Dogs are great listeners.
Research shows that working with a therapy dog on reading can be a huge help for anyone that experiences reading related anxiety, perfectionist behavior, or otherwise struggles with reading. Reading aloud to a therapy dog can also improve reading and communication skills for school-age children. Gus is an expert listener who won’t judge when readers make mistakes (as all developing readers do) and loves to hear stories, no matter the reader!
